Chirstmas markets are the perfect way to get into the spirit of the holiday season.
As the temperature drops, we fill the streets and our homes with lights to ward of the winter darkness. Many towns in Piemonte will boast Christmas Markets. Asti is notable for its size as it sprawls through the entire pedestrian area. Combined with a Festival of Tartufo the event includes, wine, food, and really lovely handmade articles from around the area.
There are more than 130 little wooden huts to visit, in a brief tour we saw everything from jewellry to salt lamps, couture hats to chocolate treats.
The beauty of the market is you are able to buy unique often handmade articles. Buying from small sellers contributes to the local economy, avoids wastful shipping and poor quality produts from China. This alone make these events worthwhile. More than that, they inspire me to take up a craft or hobby or at the very least try some new ways to deck the halls!
